How We Vet Every Tutor on Folio Tutors

Folio Tutors25 May 2026

Why Vetting Matters

Parents and students are trusting the tutors they find on our platform to work with them — sometimes one-to-one, sometimes with children in the home. That trust has to be earned. Listing anyone who creates an account, without review, is not something we are willing to do.

What We Check

Every tutor who applies to Folio Tutors goes through a profile review before going live. Our review looks at:

Identity and credentials We verify that the qualifications claimed on a tutor''s profile are consistent with the profile they present. Where tutors claim degree or teaching qualifications, we review supporting documentation.

Profile quality A profile that is vague, incoherent, or misrepresents what the tutor offers does not go live. We assess whether the profile honestly and clearly describes what the tutor can provide.

DBS status Tutors who hold current enhanced DBS certificates can indicate this on their profile. We encourage all tutors working with under-18s to obtain and register their DBS check.

The Approval Process

After submission, profiles are reviewed by our team. Tutors receive notification when their profile is approved, and clear guidance on any changes needed if it is not. Most profiles are reviewed within 48 hours of submission.

Ongoing Standards

Vetting does not end at approval. Reviews from students and parents are monitored. Reports of misconduct are investigated. Tutors who receive sustained negative feedback or reports of unprofessional conduct are reviewed and may be removed from the platform.

What We Cannot Guarantee

No vetting process is infallible, and we are transparent about that. We strongly encourage parents to always:

  • Check tutor DBS status
  • Use common sense safeguarding practices for in-person sessions
  • Read recent reviews before booking

Vetting is a meaningful safeguard, not an unconditional guarantee.
