Terms of Service

By creating an account or using FolioTutors ("the Platform", "we", "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.

These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and FolioTutors, operated from the United Kingdom. They are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Students under 18 must have a parent or guardian create the account on their behalf.
• You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

Students use the Platform to find and contact tutors for educational purposes.

Tutors create profiles to advertise their tutoring services. Tutors are independent contractors — not employees of FolioTutors. FolioTutors does not direct, supervise, or control the content or delivery of tutoring sessions.

• FolioTutors charges no commission on tutor–student transactions. All lesson fees are agreed and paid directly between tutor and student, outside of this Platform.
• Tutors may optionally purchase a Verified Tutor subscription for £9.99/month. This unlocks display of phone number, qualifications, and a verified badge on their profile.
• Tutors may optionally purchase a Highlighted Listing for £9.99/month, which promotes their profile in search results. Promotional discounts may apply to initial billing periods.
• All payments are processed securely by Stripe. By making a purchase you also agree to Stripe's terms.
• Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled before the renewal date. You may cancel at any time from your dashboard.
• Billing, renewal, promotions, cancellation, and refunds are governed by our Terms of Sale. In short: cancel anytime and keep your benefits until the end of the paid period, but payments are not refundable once a billing period has started, except where required by UK consumer law or as set out in the Terms of Sale.

• Verification confirms that a tutor has submitted identity and/or qualification documents. It does not constitute an endorsement, background check, or guarantee of quality.
• FolioTutors reserves the right to approve or reject verification applications at its discretion.
• Verified status may be revoked if a tutor violates these Terms or provides false documentation.

You must not:

• Provide false or misleading information about your identity, qualifications, or services.
• Harass, abuse, or threaten other users.
• Use the messaging system for spam, unsolicited advertising, or content unrelated to tutoring.
• Attempt to circumvent the Platform's authentication or security systems.
• Scrape, copy, or redistribute Platform data without our written consent.
• Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose.

Violations may result in immediate account suspension or termination.

• Reviews must be honest and based on genuine experience. Fake or incentivised reviews are prohibited.
• By posting any content (profile text, messages, reviews), you grant FolioTutors a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, and moderate that content on the Platform.
• We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms or applicable law.

All Platform software, design, trademarks, and content created by FolioTutors are owned by us and protected by UK intellectual property law. You may not reproduce or distribute them without our prior written consent.

• FolioTutors provides a marketplace to connect tutors and students. We do not provide tutoring services ourselves and are not responsible for the quality, safety, or legality of any sessions.
• The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law.
• To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to FolioTutors in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater.
• Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

You may close your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your account without notice if you breach these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately; outstanding payment obligations survive termination.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will give you at least 14 days' notice of material changes by email. Continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
